How Time Travel Is Possible After All

Michio Kaku is the author of several doctoral textbooks on string theory and quantum field theory and has published 170 articles in journals covering topics such as superstring theory, supergravity supersymmetry, and hadronic physics. He is also author of the popular science books: Visions, Hyperspace, Einstein’s Cosmos, and Parallel Worlds, and co-authored Beyond Einstein with Jennifer Thompson. Hyperspace was a best-seller and was voted one of the best science books of the year by both the New York Times and the Washington Post. Parallel Worlds was a finalist for the Samuel Johnson Prize for non-fiction in the UK.

    While I truly believe time travel is possible, I think the river ideology puts the metaphor to good use. Time can be seen in very much same was as water, we reside in our present within a droplet. We are riding down a powerful river twisting and ever branching off toward vast seas. These seas in turn branch out to rivers and back to seas, and these again to endless rivers and seas. Time travel would be the equivalent of harnessing the energy to heat the sea, evaporating our droplet or molecule of water to be carried further down the cycle or backward, and then dropped back into the flow of time.
    This is only true though if time is a flowing concept. Time may merely be the table on which space is moved, a solid object with no destination, if so, it may be seen as a book where moths have eaten holes through the pages. The entire books exist at the same moment, all it would take to slip to another page would be to travel through the holes. Each page acting a a plane for matter and space to be moved about, everything that ever was or ever will be exists in our present, we only need to find the holes through which we may see them.
